Dehradun, June 4: Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, is set to begin a two-day tour of Uttarakhand on Thursday. During this visit, he will address a public meeting, engage with former soldiers, and hold discussions with party leaders and workers. The Congress party is focused on strengthening its organizational presence in the state ahead of the 2027 assembly elections.
This tour is viewed as a significant political campaign aimed not only at connecting with the public but also at fortifying the Congress organization and strategizing for the upcoming elections.
Gandhi’s first major event will take place in Almora, where he is expected to address a large gathering of party supporters and local residents.
Following Almora, he will head to Pauri Garhwal to meet with former soldiers and listen to their concerns and suggestions. This event will be held at the Kondoliya Ground, where extensive preparations have been made.
Given the importance of this tour, local administration, police, and security agencies have been put on high alert. Strict security measures have been implemented at the event venues and surrounding areas.
According to officials, a significant police presence will be deployed around Kondoliya Ground to ensure that the program proceeds peacefully and in an orderly manner.
On Wednesday, Kumari Selja, Congress’s in-charge for Uttarakhand, emphasized the significance of Gandhi’s visit, noting that there is considerable enthusiasm among the public regarding his events.
In a conversation with reporters, Selja stated, “The leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is coming for a two-day tour. His first event is in Almora. People from far and wide are excited to attend this public meeting. However, there are reports that the government has not made adequate arrangements for public transportation. Traffic jams are being reported in several areas.”
Selja added, “People are eager for Rahul Gandhi’s visit, but unfortunately, the government has yet to provide proper arrangements for the locals. Traffic congestion in many places will hinder people’s movement.”
She mentioned that after the Almora event, Gandhi will proceed to Pauri Garhwal to engage with former soldiers and gather their insights on various issues.
On the second day of the tour, Friday, Rahul Gandhi will meet with Congress workers and senior leaders from across Uttarakhand. They will discuss organizational matters and future political strategies.
Meanwhile, the BJP has criticized Gandhi’s tour. Uttarakhand government minister Ganesh Joshi remarked that Rahul Gandhi’s visit ultimately benefits the BJP.
Joshi told reporters on Wednesday, “The leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is a star campaigner for the Bharatiya Janata Party. Wherever he goes, he inadvertently promotes the BJP.”
