Almora, June 4: Former Chief Minister Harish Rawat has strongly condemned BJP leader Dushyant Gautam’s remarks about Rahul Gandhi. He labeled the comments as inappropriate and disgraceful.
Rawat emphasized that using such language against a leader of a national party and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha is unbecoming of any responsible political figure. He stated that politicians in public life must be mindful of their words and avoid personal attacks, regardless of political differences.
He highlighted the crucial role of the opposition in a democratic system and insisted that the position of Leader of the Opposition deserves respect. Such comments, he argued, violate political decorum.
Responding to the Chief Minister’s statement regarding Rahul Gandhi, Rawat asserted that it is entirely incorrect to claim that Gandhi disrespects the army or tarnishes India’s image abroad. He described these accusations as far from the truth.
Rawat noted that Rahul Gandhi has consistently raised issues related to the army, soldiers, and veterans. He stated that as an opposition leader, it is Gandhi’s duty to bring matters concerning national security and soldiers’ issues to the forefront in Parliament and before the public.
He added that Gandhi has always advocated for strengthening the army, emphasizing the need for modern weapons, improved resources, and adapting military structures to changing times. With the rapidly evolving challenges of warfare and security worldwide, modernizing the army is essential.
The former Chief Minister remarked that Rahul Gandhi has always been sensitive to the interests of soldiers and veterans, raising issues related to their rights and benefits on multiple occasions. Therefore, to claim that he is against the army or disrespects it is entirely false and unfounded.
