New Delhi, June 20: A serious administrative error has emerged regarding the NEET UG re-examination, raising concerns about the examination system and the National Testing Agency (NTA). An admit card issued for the NEET UG re-exam, scheduled for June 21, mistakenly listed a Nagpur student’s examination center as Abu Dhabi, UAE.
The student, identified as Abdullah Mohammed Talib, was shocked to find an international examination center on his admit card instead of one in India. His family expressed their distress, stating they do not possess a passport and lack the resources or arrangements to travel abroad for the exam. This situation has created an atmosphere of anxiety and stress within the family.
In response, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, took to social media platform X to question the examination system. He highlighted the plight of a student who had been preparing for the exam for over a month, only to discover at the last moment that his examination center was overseas. This revelation has caused him significant mental distress.
Gandhi wrote, “No passport, no funds to send him abroad, and no time left. He cried all night and is refusing to take the exam. Can anyone imagine the stress he is under? How could this happen? There should be no complaints from any student about not reaching their center tomorrow. The NTA is essentially testing the patience of the children and their parents. A system that cannot provide an examination center in a child’s own city and instead sends them abroad has no right to conduct exams.”
He further stated, “I mentioned in Kota that this is no longer an education system. It has become a recovery of a whole generation’s money, time, and mental peace. Stop gambling with our children’s futures. They deserve a sensitive, responsible, and accountable education system, and we will ensure they receive it.”
Punjab Congress MP Amarinder Singh Raja Wadding also reacted on social media, stating, “Reports indicate that a student from Nagpur has been assigned a NEET re-test center in Abu Dhabi, which the NTA claims is a technical error. For the student, this is not a glitch. It represents years of hard work, stress, uncertainty, and a career hanging in the balance. Students in India deserve a professional examination system, not one that makes excuses after every controversy. Accountability cannot be left to a ‘technical glitch.’”
Following the incident, the NTA acknowledged the error, attributing it to a technical malfunction in the system. The agency assured the student’s family that a corrected admit card would be issued shortly, reflecting the accurate examination center. Additionally, the family received an email from the agency stating that the error would be rectified by evening.
