Bengaluru, June 26: In a shocking triple murder case in Bengaluru, a daughter arrested for the crime has claimed she killed her mother because she felt imprisoned for years. Meanwhile, police are intensifying their search for her live-in partner, who remains at large.
The case involves the murders of 55-year-old software professional Somasundar, his 48-year-old wife Muthulakshmi, and their 20-year-old daughter Supriya. Allegations suggest that the murders were committed by their elder daughter Shweta in collaboration with her boyfriend Kenneth. The incident occurred on Monday in an apartment located in the K.R. Puram area of eastern Bengaluru.
During interrogation, Shweta reportedly expressed long-standing resentment towards her mother, accusing Muthulakshmi of being overly strict throughout her schooling and college years, denying her personal freedom. Investigators noted that Shweta claimed sole responsibility for the murders, asserting that Kenneth played no role in the crime.
However, police suspect that both Shweta and Kenneth were involved, as evidence from the crime scene and the nature of the wounds suggest otherwise.
A special police team apprehended Shweta at the Puducherry railway station after an extensive search. According to investigators, the suspects had switched off their mobile phones and fled immediately to evade arrest. They also refrained from using ATM cards or digital payments to avoid detection.
Due to limited digital evidence, police relied heavily on CCTV footage from highways and toll plazas. The investigation revealed that the suspects traveled by motorcycle towards Tamil Nadu. Subsequently, police teams were dispatched to Tiruchirappalli and Puducherry.
Officials reported that the duo traveled approximately 300 kilometers before their motorcycle broke down near Puducherry. During this time, police gathered information leading to Shweta’s arrest, while Kenneth managed to escape.
Investigators believe the incident began on Sunday when Muthulakshmi visited Shweta’s home. A heated argument ensued between the mother and daughter, leading Muthulakshmi to stay overnight.
Police suspect that around 1:30 PM on Monday, Shweta and Kenneth murdered Muthulakshmi. They initially planned to transport her body to Kenneth’s rented house but abandoned the plan out of fear of being caught.
Later, when phone calls went unanswered, Somasundar and Supriya arrived at the apartment. Police estimate that Supriya was killed as soon as they entered, followed shortly by Somasundar’s murder. The suspects fled the scene afterward.
The police have formed a special team to investigate various aspects of the case, including the motive for the murders, the relationship between the accused, financial transactions, and forensic evidence. The search for Kenneth continues.
