Doha, March 29: Qatar has strongly condemned the attack targeting the residence of Nechirvan Barzani, the President of Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement deeming the act unacceptable.
The statement was also shared on social media, emphasizing Qatar’s condemnation of the attack on Barzani’s residence located in the Dohuk province of Kurdistan.
Furthermore, the Ministry reiterated Qatar’s firm stance against violence, terrorism, and criminal acts, regardless of their motives or causes. It confirmed that Qatar completely rejects any actions that could undermine the security and stability of its ally, Iraq.
Since the attack, a blame game has ensued. The U.S. State Department quickly released a statement labeling the incident a “cowardly terrorist act.” The U.S. expressed its strong support for the sovereignty and security of both Kurdistan and Iraq, alleging that the attack was orchestrated by Iran-backed militant groups.
In contrast, Iran has denied any involvement. The Iranian Foreign Ministry stated that there is a conspiracy to tarnish Iran’s reputation without any solid evidence.
On Sunday, a drone also crashed in the Karada area of Baghdad, a busy commercial district where people typically gather. According to Iraqi media, it was a small drone that caused minimal damage. Earlier, the U.S. embassy in Baghdad was also targeted, alongside attacks on the U.S. consulate in Erbil and a U.S. airbase, coinciding with the assault on the presidential residence.
