Brasilia, April 3: Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva stated on Thursday that he cannot predict when the U.S.-Israel attacks on Iran will end. However, he is committed to protecting Brazilian citizens from the economic repercussions of this conflict.
In an interview with local television station Record Bahia, Lula emphasized the uncertainty surrounding the duration of the conflict. He remarked, “The war is ongoing, but one thing I can assure you is that we are doing everything possible to prevent the impact of this irresponsible war against Iran from affecting people’s wallets.”
He added that the rise in international prices will not burden truck drivers, ordinary citizens, or homemakers. “That is why we are taking several measures. Brazil is undergoing a very serious monitoring process.”
The President warned against speculation in the domestic fuel market and announced strict controls to curb profiteering. He stated that security forces are monitoring potential irregularities in the distribution chain.
According to him, his government has also implemented measures such as tax exemptions and subsidies to control price increases in the domestic fuel market.
Earlier, on April 1, Lula claimed that the United States fabricated a false pretext to initiate an “unnecessary war” against Iran.
During an interview in Brazil’s northeastern state of Ceará, he said, “The United States has engaged in an unnecessary war in Iran, claiming that Iran possesses nuclear weapons or is attempting to develop them. This is a lie.”
Lula pointed out that the U.S. has repeatedly waged wars based on falsehoods, citing the alleged weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, which were never found. He concluded that such excuses do not resolve any issues.
