Amritsar, August 28: Punjab Police has once again launched a significant operation against drug traffickers. Authorities apprehended six individuals, seizing a substantial quantity of narcotics and advanced firearms.
According to the Punjab DGP, the State Special Operation Cell and Counter Intelligence in Amritsar uncovered two separate operations targeting gangs involved in the trafficking of weapons and drugs. They confiscated 2.920 kilograms of heroin along with eight high-end pistols.
Initial investigations revealed that the suspects were engaged in cross-border smuggling. They were reportedly using drones to transport weapons and narcotics for distribution among criminal elements in Punjab. Separate FIRs have been registered at the State Special Operation Cell police station in Amritsar. Ongoing investigations aim to identify all individuals connected to the trafficking network and uncover further links within the operation.
Previously, the Amritsar Commissionerate police dismantled three different networks related to arms and drug trafficking, arresting five individuals. From these suspects, authorities recovered nine illegal pistols and 6.311 kilograms of heroin.
The arrested individuals were also in contact with handlers based abroad. Under their directives, the suspects received supplies of illegal weapons and narcotics for further distribution. Three separate FIRs were filed in the Amritsar Cantt and Cheherata police stations regarding these operations.
The DGP emphasized the commitment to closely monitor cross-border trafficking and maintain a zero-tolerance policy against drug-related crimes and illegal arms smuggling. The campaign against the trafficking of drugs and illegal weapons will continue in the state, with the police aiming to completely dismantle such networks to disrupt the supply chain of narcotics and firearms.
