Six Students Drown During Ganesh Idol Immersion in Telangana

Sangareddy, September 16 (Daily Kiran) : In a tragic incident on September 16, six students lost their lives while participating in the Ganesh idol immersion in Sangareddy district, Telangana. According to local police, the accident occurred in the village of Peddakanjirala, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Cyberabad Commissionerate’s Patancheru police station.

The victims, aged between 17 and 22 years, accidentally fell into the Neredu Cheruvu pond during the immersion ceremony. Local residents quickly attempted to rescue them and rushed them to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately, they were pronounced dead upon arrival.

The deceased have been identified as Narasimha (21), Teja (17), Siddharth (17), Ganesh (18), Sumanth Reddy (17), and Uday Kiran (22). Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the six students and extended his condolences to their families. He instructed local authorities to provide assistance to the affected families and emphasized the need for safety measures during the immersion festivities.

Women and Child Welfare Minister Sitakka also expressed her grief regarding the incident. She conveyed her sympathies to the bereaved families and assured them that the government would support them during this difficult time. Sitakka contacted the district collector of Sangareddy to gather more information about the incident, including the causes, relief efforts, and assistance provided to the families.

The minister also spoke with Shruti Ojha, the secretary of the Women and Child Welfare Department, to discuss coordination efforts for providing necessary support to the affected families. She urged officials to remain vigilant regarding children’s safety, particularly during immersion ceremonies, and instructed that adequate precautions be taken to prevent children from approaching hazardous water bodies.

Tightened safety measures are now being called for in areas where immersion ceremonies are held to ensure such tragedies do not occur in the future.
