Punjab BJP President Accuses AAP Government of Record Corruption

Chandigarh, April 15: Sunil Jakhar, the Punjab BJP state president, has criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government led by Bhagwant Mann, claiming it has set new records in corruption. This statement comes in light of the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) recent raids at the residence of AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Mittal and Lovely Institute.

In a conversation in Chandigarh, Jakhar justified the ED’s actions, linking them to an alleged education scam. He pointed out that Mittal is not only a member of the Rajya Sabha but also the owner of Lovely University, which heightens the seriousness of the situation.

Jakhar noted that on April 8 and 9, the Punjab and Haryana High Court made strong remarks regarding an alleged scam involving approximately ₹230 crores in the SCBC post-matric scholarship scheme. The court expressed frustration over the lack of preliminary investigations or FIRs filed in the past four years. It warned that if police do not take action, it may have to intervene decisively.

He stated that the ED’s actions should be viewed in this context, emphasizing that they serve the interests of underprivileged students who have been deprived of education. Referencing the thoughts of B.R. Ambedkar, Jakhar highlighted the relevance of the message to “Educate, Organize, and Agitate.”

Jakhar accused Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of failing to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. He alleged collusion between the AAP and Congress, suggesting both parties are implicated in corruption.

He also recalled the tenure of former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, noting that while the ED conducted investigations then, the government did not take the matter seriously.

Expressing concern over rising corruption in the state, Jakhar pointed out irregularities in education, employment, and administrative appointments. He mentioned that numerous positions remain unfilled, yet the government has not acted to address this.

On the issue of water, he stated it is not just a technical matter but an emotional one for Punjab. Therefore, he stressed the need for active and trustworthy participation from the state government in all related decisions.
