Pune, February 3: The family of Anish Avadhia, a victim in the high-profile Porsche hit-and-run case, expressed their disappointment on Monday after the Supreme Court granted bail to three accused individuals. They claim these accused were involved in a conspiracy to alter blood samples to protect minors involved in the incident.
Anish Avadhia’s grandfather, Atmaram Avadhia, hails from Umaria district in Madhya Pradesh. He stated that investigations revealed the father of the minor driver bribed officials to switch blood samples to shield the minors from legal repercussions.
Atmaram Avadhia expressed, “We are very disappointed with today’s decision. We will seek the Supreme Court to revoke the bail granted to the accused.” He alleged that since the minor driver is the son of a real estate businessman, influential leaders and senior officials are conspiring to weaken the case.
Anish’s father, Om Avadhia, also voiced his dismay, stating that he had hoped for justice from the highest court in the country. He remarked, “We expected justice, but it seems unlikely now. There should not have been bail granted due to political pressure and financial influence in this case.”
On Monday, the Supreme Court granted bail to three individuals accused of conspiring to alter blood samples to protect minors involved in the notorious Porsche hit-and-run case. Justices B.V. Nagarathna and Ujjal Bhuiyan noted that the accused had been in jail for nearly 20 months. The court ordered the release of Ashish Satish Mittal, Aditya Avinash Sood, and Amar Santosh Gaikwad under trial court conditions.
These three individuals are alleged to have played a role in changing the blood samples of two minors present in the Porsche, who were reportedly intoxicated at the time of the accident. Mittal is identified as a friend of the main accused’s father, while Sood is the father of a minor who was seated in the back of the car during the incident. Gaikwad is accused of acting as an intermediary, allegedly receiving ₹300,000 for facilitating the sample alteration.
The incident occurred on May 19, 2024, when a speeding Porsche without a license plate collided with a two-wheeler in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar area, resulting in the deaths of Anish Avadhia and Ashwini Costa, who were returning home from a hotel.
Ashwini Costa also worked alongside Anish as a software engineer and was a resident of Jabalpur district in Madhya Pradesh. Investigations revealed that the car was driven by a 17-year-old minor who was under the influence of alcohol, accompanied by two other minors and a driver.
Police reports indicate that the minor had consumed alcohol at two different hotels before the accident. Investigations further uncovered that the blood sample of the minor was switched to conceal the alcohol consumption.
According to investigative agencies, doctors at Sassoon Hospital in Pune discarded the minor’s blood sample and submitted his mother’s sample instead. This alleged conspiracy involved the minor’s father, Pune businessman Vishal Agarwal, his wife, and others.
The prosecution claims that hospital staff were bribed through intermediaries with ₹300,000, and senior medical officials facilitated this manipulation to ensure the absence of alcohol in the report.
