New Delhi, June 24: Union Minister of Communications and Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya Scindia and Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal arrived at a Cabinet meeting in New Delhi on Wednesday using the same vehicle. In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for fuel conservation, both senior ministers opted for carpooling.
Before the Cabinet meeting, Scindia and Sonowal highlighted the importance of saving petrol and diesel through carpooling, emphasizing energy conservation and environmental protection. Their initiative aims to inspire the public to incorporate resource-efficient practices and fuel savings into their daily lives.
Notably, this is not the first time Scindia has promoted carpooling; he previously shared a ride with Minister Ram Mohan Naidu to convey a similar message.
Prime Minister Modi has consistently urged citizens to make energy conservation a public movement and to save every drop of petrol and diesel. He has advocated that every citizen should contribute to fuel savings.
This appeal from the Prime Minister comes at a time when crude oil prices have surged above $100 per barrel due to the crisis in West Asia, exacerbated by the closure of the Hormuz Strait. During discussions on the broader challenges posed to India by conflicts in West Asia, Modi stated, “When every government and citizen of this country walks together, we can face every challenge. This is our identity and our strength.”
He encouraged citizens to help preserve foreign exchange reserves by reducing the consumption of imported fuel through public transport and carpooling. Additionally, Modi urged the public to reconsider unnecessary expenses, including avoiding foreign travel for a year.
