Protests Erupt at MCD Headquarters Following Tragic PG Building Collapse in Delhi

New Delhi, September 6 (Daily Kiran) : In New Delhi, on September 6, members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest at the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) headquarters. This demonstration was in response to the tragic collapse of a PG building in Satya Niketan. The organization expressed outrage over alleged negligence in safety measures at hostels and PG accommodations, calling for strict action against those responsible and demanding safety audits for all PG buildings in student-populated areas.

During the protest, ABVP activists criticized the MCD’s operations and voiced serious concerns over student safety. Some members entered the MCD premises to sit in protest, urging immediate action from the administration.

ABVP representatives stated that the incident in Satya Niketan was not merely an accident but a result of disregarded safety standards. They emphasized that thousands of students from across the country come to study in Delhi, residing in numerous private PG and rental accommodations. Therefore, it is the administration’s duty to ensure regular inspections for structural integrity, fire safety, and compliance with established standards.

The organization demanded a high-level and impartial investigation into the Satya Niketan incident, holding PG operators and relevant officials accountable for negligence. They also called for immediate safety and structural audits of all PG and rental buildings in student-heavy areas of Delhi.

ABVP warned that strict action must be taken against buildings violating safety norms, asserting that any compromise on student safety is unacceptable. They pledged to persistently raise the issue of student safety until the administration takes concrete action and ensures accountability.

Dr. Virendra Singh Solanki, the national general secretary of ABVP, described the Satya Niketan incident as deeply tragic and concerning. He called for a fair investigation and strict measures against those found culpable, ensuring justice for the affected students.

He also stated that officials who failed to guarantee student safety should be held responsible. Furthermore, Dr. Solanki urged the commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to resign immediately, taking moral responsibility for the incident.

He encouraged the public to pray for those impacted by the disaster and reiterated ABVP’s commitment to fighting for student safety and rights.
