New Delhi, February 18: During an AI summit held in the national capital, Professor Neha Singh from Galgotias University addressed the controversy surrounding a robotic dog. She clarified that the intention behind showcasing the robotic model was solely to demonstrate technology and robotic capabilities developed by students. However, the message was misinterpreted, leading to the ensuing debate.
Professor Singh explained that she was providing information about the robot’s features and its utility. The robot was introduced to enhance students’ learning and research, allowing them to understand and develop better technologies. She emphasized that this initiative aligns with the vision of a ‘Developed India’ and aims to boost self-reliant technological capabilities.
She acknowledged that some comments during the presentation were taken out of context and exaggerated on social media. According to her, a minor detail was misrepresented, resulting in unnecessary controversy.
Meanwhile, Professor Aishwarya Srivastava expressed regret on behalf of her team, stating that the platform was meant to showcase student achievements. She clarified that their goal was not to impact the country’s image negatively. The institution is committed to contributing to national development and inspiring students towards innovation.
Professor Srivastava also mentioned that research on the robot in question is ongoing, with students working to enhance its capabilities.
The controversy began when a news outlet, China Pulse, claimed on the social media platform ‘X’ that an Indian university presented a Chinese robot as its innovation at the AI summit. This sparked further debate, prompting Rahul Gandhi to post on ‘X’, stating, “Instead of leveraging talent and data, the AI summit turned into a chaotic PR spectacle.”
