Biology Teacher Dismissed After Five Years of Absence in Himachal Pradesh

Chamba, March 15: The education department in Himachal Pradesh has dismissed Archana Sharma, a biology teacher at the Government Senior Secondary School in Tissa, Chamba district. This decision follows a departmental investigation that confirmed allegations of her prolonged absence from duty without permission and negligence in her responsibilities.

According to reports, Sharma assumed her role as a biology teacher on September 6, 2019, but attended school for only three days. After that, she submitted leave applications and was absent without authorization from November 8, 2019, onwards.

Taking the matter seriously, the education department issued a charge sheet against her on October 16, 2024, under the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1965. During the investigation, multiple notices were sent to her, but she neither participated in the inquiry nor returned to duty. Consequently, the investigating officer completed the inquiry unilaterally.

The investigation report indicated that Sharma failed to appear despite receiving notices, leading to the confirmation of the charges against her. Based on this report, a show-cause notice was issued on December 18, 2025. In her response on February 4, Sharma did not provide any substantial explanation or evidence regarding the investigation but instead requested voluntary retirement.

However, the education department clarified that an employee facing disciplinary action cannot be granted voluntary retirement. Records show that Sharma had not performed her duties for over five years after joining the school, significantly impacting the education of students at Tissa School.
