New Delhi, March 18: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the farewell session for retiring members of the Rajya Sabha, emphasizing that there is no full stop in politics. He praised the contributions of outgoing members.
During his speech, PM Modi remarked, “This is an occasion that brings emotional moments to this house every two years. Various topics are discussed here, each with its significance, but when such an occasion arises, we express our respect for those colleagues moving on for a special purpose.”
He added, “Some colleagues are leaving, while others will leverage their experiences to contribute to social life. To those departing without returning, I want to say that there is never a full stop in politics.”
The Prime Minister noted that discussions on numerous topics occur within the house, with everyone making important contributions, including both sweet and sour experiences. However, when such occasions arise, a common sentiment transcends party lines, acknowledging that these colleagues are moving on for significant work. Some are leaving to return, while others will take their experiences into social life for special contributions.
PM Modi further stated, “To those leaving but not returning, I want to convey that politics never halts; the future awaits you, and your experiences and contributions will always remain in the nation’s life.”
He acknowledged the departure of Deputy Chairman Harivansh, who has had the opportunity to fulfill his responsibilities in the house for an extended period. “He is very soft-spoken and has consistently worked to earn the trust of the house,” Modi said.
The Prime Minister pointed out that every two years, a significant group departs from the house. However, this system allows the new group to learn from those who have been here for four years. Thus, the legacy of the house continues as a process.
He emphasized, “Having the opportunity to stay here for six years is not only crucial for contributing to national life through policy-making but also provides invaluable experiences that enrich life. When esteemed members come here with their ideas, understanding, and capabilities, their qualities multiply through the power of experience by the time they leave.”
PM Modi concluded, “Our outgoing members will continue to entertain people with their humor and wisdom; we are confident of that. Every two years, a grand farewell ceremony takes place in this house, but the system allows new members to learn from those who have been here for four years. In a way, the legacy here continues as a perpetual process.”
He also mentioned senior leaders like Deve Gowda, Kharge, and Sharad Pawar, whose lives have been dedicated to parliamentary procedures for over half their lives. He encouraged new members to learn from them about being dedicated, contributing as much as possible, and being fully committed to their responsibilities. “I will greatly appreciate their contributions,” he added.
