New Delhi, June 21: Following a meeting concerning the internal politics of the Punjab Congress, senior leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, Pratap Singh Bajwa, made several statements. He described his meeting with Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, as “useful and positive.” Bajwa emphasized that he and his colleagues will accept any decisions made by the leadership in the party’s interest.
Speaking to reporters, Bajwa revealed that Rahul Gandhi met with five senior leaders of the Punjab Congress. They discussed the political situation in Punjab, strengthening the organization, and upcoming strategies in detail.
Bajwa stated that he expressed his views during the meeting and clarified that the people of Punjab are ready to give Congress another chance. He urged the party to seize this opportunity fully.
He also mentioned that decisions related to leadership have historically been made by Rahul Gandhi and former president Sonia Gandhi, and that their role will remain crucial in future organizational decisions. He and his colleagues are working not for positions but for the principles of the party and the interests of Punjab.
Bajwa declared, “We are dedicated soldiers of the Congress party. Whether we receive positions or not, we will stand with Rahul Gandhi and Congress. All leaders must work together to strengthen Congress’s position in Punjab.”
He referenced the recent electoral performance, noting that in 2024, Congress won 8 out of 14 parliamentary seats, including those in Chandigarh and Punjab. According to him, if the party remains united, even better results are possible in the future.
After the meeting, Bajwa stated that he has shared his opinions with the party leadership, and the final decision now rests with Rahul Gandhi. He expressed confidence that whatever decision is made will be in the best interests of both Punjab and Congress.
