Patna, August 17: Following his victory in the Bankipur by-election, Prashant Kishor, the founder of the Jan Suraj Party, will take the oath of office as a member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly on Monday.
The oath-taking ceremony is scheduled for 10:30 AM in the office chamber of Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar, located in the main building of the Bihar Assembly.
According to a letter issued by the Deputy Secretary of the Bihar Assembly, Kishor has been requested to be present at the specified time and location for the oath.
Kishor achieved the distinction of becoming the first elected MLA from the Jan Suraj Party by defeating BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha in the Bankipur by-election. This result marks Kishor’s first electoral victory since entering politics, representing a significant achievement for the relatively new party.
Voting for the Bankipur seat took place on July 30, with the counting of votes occurring on August 3. Kishor maintained his lead throughout the counting process, ultimately winning by a margin of 19,324 votes. He received 64,151 votes, while BJP’s Neeraj Kumar Sinha garnered 44,827 votes. RJD candidate Rekha Gupta finished in third place with 14,273 votes.
This outcome has ended the BJP’s long-standing dominance in this constituency, which the party has controlled since 1995.
The victory is particularly significant as Bankipur has traditionally been considered a BJP stronghold. With this ceremony, Kishor will formally begin his term as an MLA, becoming the first legislator elected on a Jan Suraj Party ticket. His win has granted the newly formed party its first presence in the state assembly, transforming the Bankipur by-election into a notable political event in Bihar.
