Noida, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : In Noida, the police department has taken action following the issuance of a controversial notice to Gautam Buddha University student Akshat Tripathi. This notice, which demanded a personal bond of five lakh rupees, was linked to a protest held at Jantar Mantar. Sub-Inspector Shiva Pandey, who prepared the initial report against Tripathi, has been suspended. The investigation into the roles of other police officials is also underway.
On September 4, a notice was issued to Tripathi by an executive magistrate, requiring him to submit a five lakh rupee bond to maintain peace for six months and provide two sureties of the same amount. This action was initiated under relevant sections of the Indian Citizen Security Code.
The police report accused Tripathi of inciting fellow students to participate in a protest organized by the Cockroach Public Party (CJP). It also alleged that he was spreading anti-government and misleading information, raising concerns about potential unrest on campus.
Tripathi has denied these allegations, stating he participated peacefully in the protest and was not present at the university when the report was prepared. He further claimed to have been interning at the Allahabad High Court in July, which adds to the timeline of his absence from classes.
As the controversy escalated, questions arose regarding the legitimacy of the five lakh rupee notice, eventually reaching the Supreme Court. The court raised serious concerns about the issuance of the notice, questioning the clarity of instructions regarding actions against protestors.
Following the outcry, the police rescinded the five lakh rupee bond notice. They confirmed that once the issue was brought to their attention, the relevant authorities were informed, leading to the notice’s cancellation. A departmental inquiry into the actions of the involved officers has since commenced. The Gautam Buddha Nagar police commissionerate clarified that no orders had been issued against Tripathi under Section 130 by District Magistrate Medha Roopam.
With the suspension of Sub-Inspector Shiva Pandey, the investigation into the responsibilities of the involved officials has intensified. The police department is examining the processes behind the report preparation and the verification of facts prior to the notice’s issuance. They have stated that any officer or employee found guilty in this investigation will face appropriate disciplinary action.
