New Delhi, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced that metro services will commence at 6 AM on Sunday, September 13, in response to traffic restrictions associated with the 18th BRICS Summit. This decision aims to ease the commute for students and the general public during this significant event.
In a post on social media platform ‘X’, DMRC stated, “To facilitate the smooth and timely movement of students and the public amid traffic restrictions due to the BRICS Summit, metro train services will start at 06:00 AM on all lines. Passengers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly.”
The summit will take place at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, prompting heightened security measures across the city. Several key locations, including the President’s Museum and Amrit Udyan, will remain closed to visitors for three days.
Officials confirmed that both the President’s Museum and Amrit Udyan will be inaccessible from Friday through Sunday. Additionally, there will be no ‘Change of Guard’ ceremony in the President’s courtyard on Saturday.
These measures aim to minimize disruptions for BRICS delegates and reduce congestion around the summit venue by restricting public movement on the roads.
The Delhi government has already declared a holiday for its offices on September 11. The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions has also issued an official circular announcing a holiday for central government offices on that day.
On Friday, the Delhi Police released a traffic advisory regarding the BRICS Summit, indicating that traffic would be diverted on major routes from 2 PM to 8:30 PM, with movement being controlled during that time.
Travelers are encouraged to plan their journeys in advance, allowing extra time for travel, utilizing public transport, especially the metro, and following designated diversion routes and police instructions. Emergency and essential service vehicles will be given priority on the roads.
