Patna, August 17: The Bihar government has announced a financial aid of ₹4 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives in the stampede at Ashok Dham Temple in Lakhisarai. This announcement was made on Monday, following the tragic incident that claimed at least seven lives and left over a dozen injured. Many leaders from the NDA, including Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, expressed their condolences regarding the event.
The chaos erupted during the holy month of Sawan, specifically on the third Monday, when a large number of devotees gathered for prayers and rituals. Reports indicate that a falling electric wire triggered panic among the crowd, leading to widespread confusion. As rumors spread, many devotees began to flee in different directions, resulting in a stampede where several individuals were trapped and crushed underfoot. Local residents and other devotees quickly attempted to rescue those caught in the crowd.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh shared his sorrow on social media, stating, “I am deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to the stampede at Ashok Dham Temple, Lakhisarai. My heartfelt condolences go out to the grieving families of those who perished in this heartbreaking incident. I pray for the swift recovery of the injured and hope that God grants strength to all affected during this difficult time.”
Central Minister Chirag Paswan also expressed his grief, saying, “The tragic stampede at Ashok Dham Temple, Lakhisarai, is extremely distressing. The news of the untimely deaths of devotees has deeply affected me. My sympathies are with the families of the deceased during this challenging time. May God grant peace to the souls of the departed and strength to the grieving families. I pray for the quick recovery of the injured.”
Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of the opposition in Bihar, remarked, “I am heartbroken by the tragic incident at Ashok Dham Temple in Lakhisarai during the water offering on the third Monday of Sawan. The falling electric wire caused panic and the stampede, resulting in injuries to many devotees and the untimely death of seven. The lack of proper safety and crowd management in the temple reflects the administrative failure of the NDA government. I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved families and urge the government to provide compensation to the victims’ families and ensure prompt medical care for the injured.”
Bihar’s Health Minister Nishant Kumar expressed his sorrow, stating, “I am deeply saddened by the tragic stampede at Ashok Dham Temple. The news of the devotees’ deaths is extremely painful. May God grant peace to the departed souls and strength to their grieving families. I pray for the swift recovery of all injured devotees.”
Rajiv Ranjan Singh (Lalan), the Central Minister for Animal Husbandry and Dairy, noted, “The crowd at Ashok Dham Temple surged unexpectedly during the third Monday. During this time, rumors of a falling electric wire and pole, along with the presence of current, spread, leading to the stampede. The news of multiple fatalities is heartbreaking. My deepest condolences go out to all families who lost their loved ones in this tragic incident.
