Chennai, July 11: TTV Dhinakaran, the General Secretary of the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK), has ignited a new political debate in Tamil Nadu. He stated that the possibility of an alliance between the DMK and AIADMK cannot be dismissed. Dhinakaran emphasized that political equations often shift based on circumstances rather than ideology.
Speaking to reporters in Madurai, Dhinakaran remarked that political alliances should not be evaluated based on rigid criteria related to the involved parties.
His comments came in response to recent remarks by Thol Thirumavalavan, the president of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), who suggested that the DMK and Tamilaga Vetrikatchi (TVK) should remain united to effectively counter the influence of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Dhinakaran raised questions about the selective political reasoning that dismisses the possibility of a DMK-AIADMK agreement. He noted that across the country, political parties have frequently allied with former rivals to achieve significant political goals.
He further stated that if forming a government with the support of former adversaries during elections is deemed acceptable, then there should be no objections to any political alliance.
Referring to the current political landscape in Tamil Nadu, Dhinakaran argued that debating the likelihood of a DMK-AIADMK alliance is futile, as governments can also be formed with the backing of parties that have previously contested against each other.
He questioned the criticism surrounding this evolving political scenario, asking what is wrong with the DMK and AIADMK coming together if the TVK can form a government with the support of DMK-aligned parties.
