Bhopal, September 5 (Daily Kiran) : Senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Kamal Nath, has raised alarms about the increasing number of government school closures in the state. He is urging the government to expedite teacher appointments to address this pressing issue.
In recent days, various groups of teacher candidates have been protesting in Bhopal, demanding immediate hiring. Nath highlighted that candidates from categories one, two, and three have been on hunger strike for the past 15 days, yet their pleas have gone largely ignored by the government. He criticized the administration for its education-hostile stance, especially as Madhya Pradesh faces the highest number of school closures in the country. Alarmingly, over 1.2 million students in the state have dropped out of school.
Nath further pointed out that candidates from the Class-1 selection exam of 2023 have been advocating for increased positions for three years. They claim that while 8,720 positions were approved and advertised for the higher secondary teacher recruitment exam in 2023, only 2,901 positions were filled during the initial counseling, leaving 5,819 positions vacant or unaddressed.
Similarly, candidates for Class-2 and Class-3 teacher recruitment in 2025 are demanding at least 10,000 additional positions for Class-2 and 25,000 for Class-3. Nath emphasized that with so many schools shutting down and countless children being forced to leave school, it is evident that there is a critical need for more teachers. He urged the government to fulfill the candidates’ demands for recruitment to improve the state’s education system.
