Poonam Dhillon Discusses Parenting, Marriage, and Personal Struggles on Tum Ho Na

Mumbai, June 13: In a recent episode of Rajeev Khandelwal’s show ‘Tum Ho Na’, actress Poonam Dhillon opened up about her personal struggles and upbringing. She shared that her parents were very strict, not allowing her to socialize or date peers her age. Poonam believes that while strict parenting can be beneficial, modern parents should give their children the freedom to make decisions and understand the world around them.

Rajeev inquired about the challenges faced by public figures, noting that many girls look up to Poonam as an inspiration. He emphasized the importance of recognizing that celebrities are also ordinary people with their own challenges, sometimes even greater due to their public visibility.

Poonam responded, “As a celebrity or public figure, working from Monday to Sunday leaves little room for socializing. Many people perceive you as someone out of their league, while others think that film stars are just like that. Both situations create a distinct image of you.”

She recounted her own experiences, stating, “I had limited interactions with people. My parents were very strict, and I wasn’t allowed to meet or date anyone my age. Even after becoming an actress, I wasn’t considered a friend by other actors. If a group planned to watch a movie, I was often told, ‘No, you can’t go.’”

Discussing strict parenting, Poonam expressed, “I believe strict upbringing has its merits, but I urge parents today to give their children some leeway. Allow them to explore and learn new things so they can make informed decisions. If we keep them overly sheltered, their perspectives will remain limited.”

She reflected on how her life revolved around work and home. Speaking about her ex-husband Ashok, she said, “Ashok is a good person. I won’t speak ill of him, as he truly is a good human being. However, two good individuals do not always make a good partnership.”

Poonam added, “Marriage doesn’t just work because two good people are involved. It requires a blend of upbringing, mindset, education, and life values. When these elements don’t align, marital life becomes challenging.”

She revealed that her marriage was a love match, stating, “I didn’t have much life experience. Ashok took a long time to convince me. He was a good person, so I thought it was the right choice. At that time, I had no idea how challenging life would become.”
