Mumbai, June 23: Ekta Kapoor, a prominent figure in the TV and OTT landscape, is currently in the spotlight for the new season of her popular reality show, ‘Lock Up: Truth or Punishment.’ This season will feature several significant changes, the most notable being the absence of actress Kangana Ranaut, who hosted the first season. Kapoor addressed this change during the show’s launch event in Mumbai, explaining the reasons behind it.
She stated, “This time, the entire format and vision of the show have been altered. When the direction of the show is changing completely, it’s not feasible to carry forward the old setup. We are trying to present the show in a new way to provide viewers with a fresh experience.”
Kapoor elaborated, “Previously, the concept revolved around a jailer and a host, but now it has been completely transformed. There is no longer the old jailer system or the previous role of the host. To bring the show into a new light, it was essential to remove everything old and start anew. Both the design and presentation of the show have undergone significant changes. If we had maintained the old format, the freshness and new experience of the new season would not have reached the audience.”
In the first season, Kangana Ranaut hosted the show, while actor Karan Kundra played the role of the jailer. Comedian Munawar Faruqui emerged as the winner of that season. The show’s concept was based on a jail-style setup, where contestants had to complete tasks to meet their basic needs.
For the upcoming season, there will be 14 contestants, along with two jailers. The show is set to run for approximately six weeks. According to the rules, contestants will again need to complete tasks for their basic needs, which will determine their in-show currency and facilities.
Several new names have been announced for this season, including actor Ram Kapoor, actress Shivangi Joshi, and social media personality Pamela Serena as contestants. Additionally, Ritesh Deshmukh and Farah Khan will take on the roles of jailers this time.
The show will be streamed on the OTT platform Netflix.
