Political Turmoil Over Annapurna Bhandar Scheme in West Bengal

Kolkata, May 30: A political storm has erupted in West Bengal over the Annapurna Bhandar scheme. Following accusations from the Trinamool Congress (TMC), BJP leader Rahul Sinha sharply responded, stating that if TMC remains silent on this issue, it will be beneficial for them.

In an interview, Sinha remarked, “TMC has no right to speak about the Annapurna Bhandar scheme. This is the same party that named the scheme ‘Lakshmi Bhandar’ to benefit infiltrators.”

He alleged that many men were also receiving benefits under the TMC government. “Our government is scrutinizing all those who have misappropriated public funds. Those who have stolen in this manner will be detained. Therefore, if TMC remains silent on this matter, it will be for their own good,” he added.

The new BJP government has cited that nearly 3 million illegal beneficiaries were included during the previous administration. Recently, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari stated that approximately 3 million illegal beneficiaries were receiving monthly payments under the Lakshmi Bhandar scheme initiated by the Mamata Banerjee-led government. A new application process for the scheme has also been launched.

However, the TMC has criticized the new application process, particularly the 12-page form. They have accused the government of attempting to reduce the number of beneficiaries under the Annapurna Bhandar scheme.

On the issue of illegal Bangladeshi nationals in Bengal, the BJP leader stated, “The government has made it clear that Bangladeshi nationals must return to their country; otherwise, action will be taken. As a result, many people are returning to Bangladesh. Some are entering other states instead of going back to the Bangladeshi border. However, we will work to send all of them back to Bangladesh.”

He emphasized that the West Bengal government is striving to free India from Bangladeshi Muslims and Rohingyas. A similar initiative will be implemented nationwide, as announced by the Union Home Minister.
