Phagwara, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : Political tensions have escalated following an incident at Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Phagwara, Punjab. Congress MPs Charanjit Singh Channi and Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa held a press conference in New Delhi, where they leveled serious accusations against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government regarding the state’s law and order situation.
Channi addressed reporters about the LPU incident, stating, “The real situation can only be understood by visiting the site. An FIR should have been registered for the crime that occurred. External individuals came and created chaos, which was sponsored by the police.” He further alleged that the university’s owner, Ashok Mittal, joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prompted the AAP government to attempt to undermine the institution.
He questioned the delay in police action, asking, “Who is responsible for this? Why was there no FIR after the incident? Students were brutally beaten; who will be held accountable for that?”
Randhawa echoed these concerns, stating that the government should have acted swiftly to control the situation at LPU. He criticized the delayed response, noting, “Students protested on the streets for hours; such incidents should not occur.”
Expressing his worries about the law and order in Punjab, he added, “Everyone knows the state of law and order in Punjab. Does the central government not know? We meet with the Home Minister; is he unaware of the situation? The delay in action led to protests lasting several days, blocking highways. Police should have acted sooner, and their inaction is unacceptable.”
Randhawa also questioned the upcoming visit of the central Home Minister to Punjab. “I believe the Home Minister will visit tomorrow. I want to ask him what steps the government is taking regarding gangsters operating from jails, activities through Pakistani drones, and drugs entering the state. Has the NCB taken any action to confiscate mobile phones from gangsters in jails? What will he say about the FBI report? He must answer the entire state of Punjab.”
Criticizing the BJP’s “Nasha Mukht Punjab Yatra,” Randhawa remarked, “Look at their journey. It started from Pathankot, which is a BJP stronghold. They couldn’t gather even 3,000 people there. The people of Punjab have completely rejected the BJP, and this journey has failed miserably.”
Tensions are likely to continue as the political landscape shifts in response to the ongoing issues surrounding law and order in Punjab.
