New Delhi, April 2: A political storm is brewing in Delhi over the proposed Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) bill. Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda has launched a fierce attack on the government, labeling the bill as detrimental to the future of soldiers.
During a media interaction on Thursday, Hooda expressed his deep concern regarding the government’s introduction of a law that he claims obstructs the career advancement of personnel in all CAPF forces, including CRPF, BSF, ITBP, and SSB. He stated that this bill not only limits promotions and opportunities for soldiers but also disregards Supreme Court orders, thereby stifling the future prospects of all personnel.
Hooda further questioned the government’s approach to this critical issue, highlighting the absence of Home Minister Amit Shah during discussions. He deemed it alarming that the Home Minister did not find it necessary to address the House on such a sensitive matter.
He pointed out that just a day prior, on March 31, Shah had announced the eradication of Naxalism, yet the same government is now raising questions about the future of CAPF personnel who play a crucial role in combating this threat. Hooda clarified that this discontent led the Congress party to walk out of the House.
It is noteworthy that the Rajya Sabha passed the Central Armed Police Forces (General Administration) Bill, 2026, by voice vote on Wednesday, during which the opposition staged a walkout. The opposition had sought to send the bill to a select committee for further discussion. In response to the opposition’s allegations during the debate, Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai asserted that the bill does not violate the federal structure or the spirit of the Constitution, but rather strengthens it. He emphasized that the CAPF works in coordination with state police and administration.
