New Delhi, April 4: In the 19 seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL), only three bowlers have managed to take six wickets in a single innings. Let’s take a closer look at their remarkable achievements.

Sohail Tanvir: The first bowler to achieve the feat of six wickets in an IPL match was Sohail Tanvir. On May 4, 2008, he took six wickets for just 14 runs in four overs against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). His outstanding bowling performance led to CSK being bowled out for a mere 109 runs in 19 overs.

In response, the Rajasthan Royals chased down the target in just 14.2 overs, winning the match with eight wickets to spare. Graeme Smith scored an unbeaten 35 runs, while Swapnil Asnodkar contributed 32 runs to the team’s total.

Adam Zampa: On May 10, 2016, playing for the Rising Pune Supergiant, Zampa took six wickets for just 19 runs in four overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad. This match, held in Visakhapatnam, saw Sunrisers Hyderabad manage only 137 runs while losing eight wickets in their 20 overs, with Shikhar Dhawan scoring 33 runs and Kane Williamson adding 32 runs.

In reply, the Rising Pune Supergiant could only muster 133 runs for eight wickets, losing the match by a narrow margin of four runs. George Bailey was the top scorer for the Supergiant with 34 runs, while captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni contributed 30 runs but could not lead his team to victory.

Alzarri Joseph: Playing for the Mumbai Indians (MI) on April 6, 2019, Alzarri Joseph achieved the remarkable feat of taking six wickets for just 12 runs in 3.4 overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), including a maiden over. His exceptional bowling helped the Mumbai Indians secure a 40-run victory.

Batting first, MI posted 136 runs while losing seven wickets. Kieron Pollard played a crucial role, scoring an unbeaten 46 runs off 26 balls. In response, Sunrisers Hyderabad crumbled under Joseph’s bowling, managing only 96 runs in 17.4 overs.
