Jalaun, September 20 (Daily Kiran) : Authorities in Jalaun have made significant arrests following a checkpoint operation that led to the seizure of illegal firearms. On September 19, officers from the Et police station were conducting checks on suspicious individuals and vehicles when they received a tip-off about two black Fortuner SUVs coming from Jhansi, potentially carrying illegal weapons.
As the vehicles approached the Et toll plaza, the occupants attempted to flee upon seeing the police. However, law enforcement managed to surround and stop both vehicles. Two individuals were apprehended, while others managed to escape. The arrested suspects were identified as Ashutosh Mishra from Deputy Kheda, and Nitish Srivastava, also known as Vicky, from Krishnapalli, both in Lucknow.
Upon searching Ashutosh, police found three .32 caliber pistols, while Nitish was found in possession of 12 live cartridges. Additionally, three mobile phones were recovered from the suspects. Cash totaling ₹57,200 was also seized, with Ashutosh having ₹3,620 and Nitish holding ₹53,580.
The police requested documentation for the Fortuner vehicles, but the suspects failed to provide any. Consequently, action was taken under the Motor Vehicle Act. The seized firearms and ammunition have been secured for further investigation.
During questioning, Ashutosh allegedly claimed that one of the pistols was his, while the other two were provided by Nitish. Nitish indicated that the firearms were obtained from an unidentified person in Madhya Pradesh. These statements are currently under investigation.
A case has been registered against the suspects under section 3/25 of the Arms Act, with Sub-Inspector Brijesh Kumar assigned to the case. Authorities are now working to trace the source of the firearms and uncover any connections to other individuals involved in this incident.
