Chandigarh, September 20 (Daily Kiran) : Punjab police have made significant strides in combating drug and weapon trafficking, arresting four individuals in connection with a major smuggling operation. The arrests were made in Chandigarh, where authorities seized 47.3 kilograms of heroin, three pistols, three magazines, 15 cartridges, and two vehicles from the suspects.
According to the Director General of Police (DGP) of Punjab, the Faridkot police uncovered a network involved in cross-border heroin trafficking. Initial investigations revealed that the arrested individuals are connected to a larger smuggling operation that spans across the border.
FIRs have been filed against the suspects at the Sadiq and Faridkot police stations, with ongoing investigations aimed at revealing the full extent of the trafficking network and identifying additional accomplices.
Previously, the Counter Intelligence unit in Amritsar dismantled another drug trafficking gang, apprehending three key suspects and recovering 17 kilograms of heroin. Investigations indicated that these individuals were collaborating with cross-border traffickers to transport heroin for further distribution.
The State Special Operation Cell in Amritsar has also registered FIRs against the apprehended traffickers, as the investigation continues to trace the entire smuggling network and dismantle it. The DGP emphasized the Punjab police’s commitment to monitoring cross-border trafficking and taking decisive actions against drug smuggling and organized crime.
