Kolkata, September 21 (Daily Kiran) : The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Eastern Railway has successfully resolved a significant theft case aboard the New Alipurduar-Siyaldah Padatik Express. This operation, conducted in collaboration with local police, led to the recovery of stolen items worth approximately ₹16.41 lakhs, including gold jewelry, silver coins, and cash.
The incident occurred on September 15, 2026, when a passenger reported the theft of valuable belongings from their reserved S-1 coach while the train was at Kotulpukur station. The stolen items included gold jewelry, raw gold, silver coins, and a mobile phone.
Upon receiving the complaint, the RPF acted swiftly. A special joint team was formed, comprising personnel from RPF posts in Pakur and Barharwa, along with the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) from Bardhaman. They began investigating the case immediately.
During their inquiry, the team scrutinized CCTV footage from Kotulpukur Railway Station, which revealed a suspicious individual boarding the S-1 coach from the opposite side. Utilizing the footage and local intelligence, the team successfully identified the suspect.
A senior officer noted that, acting on reliable information, the joint team, with assistance from the Rajmahal police station, conducted a raid at the suspect’s father-in-law’s house in the village of Nageshwar Bagh. There, they apprehended the main accused.
From a pink jewelry bag in the suspect’s possession, a significant portion of the stolen items was recovered. This included broken gold bangles, gold bracelets, necklaces, rings, a pendant chain, a child’s armlet, a deity crown, raw gold, silver coins, and ₹1.41 lakhs in cash.
During interrogation, the suspect revealed that he had sold two gold chains and two pairs of gold earrings to a local jeweler for ₹1,41,500. Acting on this information, the joint team raided a jewelry shop in Laloo Market, Rajmahal, where they arrested the individual who had purchased the stolen goods and recovered the remaining gold jewelry.
The swift action by the RPF and local police showcases their commitment to ensuring safety and security for passengers traveling on Indian railways.
