Muzaffarpur, June 17: A police encounter occurred late Tuesday night in the Musahari police station area of Muzaffarpur district, Bihar. During a vehicle inspection, criminals opened fire on the police as they attempted to flee. In the ensuing exchange, one suspect was shot in the leg and apprehended, while his accomplice managed to escape into the darkness.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kantesh Kumar Mishra reported on Wednesday that around 2:30 AM, a special vehicle inspection operation was underway near the Bhatoliya bridge in the Musahari area. During the inspection, two young men on a motorcycle were seen approaching at high speed.
When the police signaled them to stop, they did not comply and attempted to flee. The police team pursued them, leading to the motorcycle losing balance and crashing. Subsequently, the suspects began firing at the police.
According to the SSP, the criminals fired three rounds. The police issued a warning, but when the gunfire continued, they responded in self-defense. One suspect was shot in the leg, while the other escaped. The injured suspect was identified as Amit Singh, a resident of the Mahua police station area in Vaishali district.
Investigations revealed that Singh was a wanted suspect in the murder case of Amit Ranjan, which occurred on May 21 in the Musahari area. He was also wanted for attempted murder and violations of the Arms Act in a case registered in Mahua in 2024. Additionally, he has been implicated in two extortion-related cases from 2018.
The police recovered a country-made pistol, several shell casings, and other evidence from the scene. Two bullet marks were also found on the police vehicle. A forensic science laboratory (FSL) team has been called in for further investigation. The injured suspect has been admitted to the hospital, where his condition is reported to be stable. The police are actively searching for the escaped accomplice and are continuing their investigation into the matter.
