Kolkata, June 1: The investigation into the mysterious deaths of a young couple in a flat in South Kolkata’s Golf Green area has led police to significant clues. Authorities have detained another individual in connection with the case.
On Sunday afternoon, the bodies of the couple were discovered, prompting the arrest of two individuals, including a woman. Following their interrogation, police identified another suspect, who was taken into custody later that night.
Initial investigations suggest that the tragic incident may have resulted from excessive drug and alcohol consumption. However, investigators are awaiting the autopsy report to determine the actual causes of death.
According to police, the deceased, identified as Mohammad Dilshad and his female companion, had been residing in a rented flat in Golf Green for the past few months. The flat was rented in April. The 21-year-old woman hailed from Garia, a southern suburb of Kolkata. Preliminary findings indicate that she had a strained relationship with her family, leading investigators to believe she was in a live-in relationship with Dilshad.
Reports reveal that a party was held in the flat the night before the incident. Dilshad and his companion had invited two acquaintances over, and the gathering involved heavy drinking and drug use throughout the night. Investigators claim that all four consumed significant amounts of alcohol and marijuana.
Police suspect that Dilshad and the woman fell ill due to severe intoxication. The following morning (Sunday), their companions regained consciousness, but Dilshad and the woman showed no signs of life. Sources indicate that there were also bloodstains found on their bodies.
Some investigators theorize that complications from excessive drug use may have led to their deaths. However, all information remains preliminary, and the final determination will depend on the autopsy and forensic reports.
Meanwhile, neighbors grew suspicious due to a foul odor emanating from the flat. After receiving no response for an extended period, residents called emergency services to report the situation.
Upon arrival, police forced entry into the flat, where they found the bodies of Dilshad and the woman on the floor. At the same time, another young man and woman were discovered inside the flat in a state of intoxication.
Police began questioning them for further investigation. After extensive interrogation, Rahul Mushtaq and his girlfriend were arrested. A Kolkata police officer stated, “Based on the information gathered, we have detained both individuals. They will be presented in court. Further details will emerge after the court appearance. Another person has also been taken into custody.”
