
New Delhi, April 9: Voting for the assembly elections in Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry commenced at 7 AM today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to the citizens of all three states to participate actively in the voting process.
In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi stated, “I urge the people of Kerala to vote in large numbers for the 2026 assembly elections. Record participation will energize Kerala’s democratic values. I especially request the youth and women of the state to come forward and cast their votes.”
Similarly, the Prime Minister has called upon the citizens of the Union Territory of Puducherry to vote. He wrote on X, “As the Puducherry assembly elections begin, I urge all voters to participate in large numbers. I particularly appeal to young and female voters to strengthen the democratic process. Every vote matters in shaping Puducherry’s future.”
In another social media post, PM Modi expressed, “With the commencement of voting for the Assam assembly elections 2026, I appeal to the people of Assam to exercise their voting rights in large numbers. I hope that the youth and women voters of the state will participate enthusiastically and make this election a celebration of democracy and civic duty.”
Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also took to X, stating, “Voting is taking place today in Assam, and every voice, every vote matters in building a better Assam. On this festive occasion of democracy, I urge everyone to come forward and vote in large numbers to strengthen democracy and elevate Assam to new heights.”
A total of 722 candidates are contesting for 126 seats in Assam, while 890 candidates are vying for 140 seats in Kerala, and 294 candidates are competing for 30 seats in Puducherry.
