New Delhi, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media on Tuesday to share a Sanskrit verse that defines the qualities of a truly excellent person. Through this verse, he elaborated on the essential traits that contribute to genuine greatness.
The verse shared by PM Modi reads: “ज्ञानवांश्च तथा वाग्मी कर्मस्वपि च निष्ठितः. एवं युक्तोऽपि न श्रेयान् यदि शीलविवर्जितः॥” This translates to mean that a person who possesses knowledge, eloquence, and skill in their actions, but lacks good character and virtue, cannot be considered truly excellent in this world.
This particular verse is the 16th shloka from the 44th chapter of the renowned architectural treatise “Samarangana Sutradhara,” authored by Maharaja Bhoja. It emphasizes the significance of good character and virtue.
The message conveyed through this verse is clear: no matter how knowledgeable, articulate, or skilled an individual may be, without good character, they cannot earn respect or contribute positively to society. While knowledge is highly valued, possessing a commendable character is equally crucial.
Many individuals can impress others with their words. However, if their intentions are flawed and their character is not upright, their eloquence becomes merely a tool for deception. Similarly, being proficient in one’s work is commendable, but if a person lacks ethical values, their success remains incomplete.
