
New Delhi, October 8 (Daily Kiran) : India and Greece held discussions on defense and strategic cooperation, focusing on maritime collaboration, coastal security, and shipbuilding. The meeting took place in New Delhi on October 8, 2026, between India’s Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and Greece’s Deputy Minister for Maritime Affairs and Island Policy, Stefanos Gikikas.
The Defense Ministry stated, “On October 8, 2026, Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh met with Stefanos Gikikas in New Delhi. Both sides discussed defense and strategic cooperation between India and Greece, emphasizing maritime collaboration, coastal security, and shipbuilding.”
The Ministry further noted that as two significant maritime nations, India and Greece share mutual interests and concerns in the maritime domain, including the need to ensure the safety and security of seafarers.
Gikikas is in India for an official visit to participate in the “Sagar Manthan – The Great Oceans Dialogue 2026.” During a meeting with Indian Ambassador Ravi Shankar in Greece on October 1, Gikikas expressed Greece’s commitment to strengthening maritime cooperation with India.
Following their discussions, the Indian Embassy in Greece posted on X, stating, “Ambassador Ravi Shankar met with Deputy Minister Stefanos Gikikas today.” The Embassy added that Gikikas is enthusiastic about his official visit to India for the “Sagar Manthan – The Great Oceans Dialogue 2026.”
In July, Ambassador Shankar met with Lieutenant General Demosthenes Grigoriadis, Chief of the Hellenic Air Force General Staff, to discuss ongoing collaborative initiatives between the air forces of both countries.
