Rajasthan Election Commission to Host Orientation for Candidates Ahead of Panchayat Elections

Jaipur, October 8 (Daily Kiran) : The Rajasthan Election Commission, led by State Election Commissioner Rajeshwar Singh, has announced plans to conduct orientation programs for potential candidates in anticipation of the upcoming Panchayat Raj elections. These sessions are scheduled to take place at the Panchayat committee level on October 10.

Singh emphasized that these programs will provide comprehensive information about the election process. Key topics will include the nomination filing procedure, eligibility criteria, necessary documentation, precautions to take while filling out nominations, and circumstances under which nomination papers may be rejected. The primary goal is to ensure candidates submit their nominations accurately and with full knowledge of the requirements.

During a video conference on voter awareness held at the State Election Commission auditorium, Singh reviewed the voter education initiatives implemented during recent urban local body elections. He also assessed proposed voter awareness activities for the upcoming Panchayat Raj elections.

In his address, Singh interacted with student ambassadors from voter literacy clubs, gathering insights on the activities they have organized as part of the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programs. He instructed officials to organize events such as “An Evening for Democracy,” “A Tree for Democracy,” “A Light for Democracy,” and “A Game for Democracy.”

Singh also called for the establishment of ideal polling centers equipped with voter message boards and encouraged street plays, election forums, and dialogues with young and female voters. He directed that at least one Green and Clean polling center be established in each Panchayat committee area and highlighted the importance of organizing various events, including mehndi competitions, motorcycle and bicycle rallies, colorful weeks, marathons, and voter quizzes.

He noted that the Gram Panchayat is a vital unit of rural self-governance, with approximately 155,000 representatives to be elected in these elections. Elected representatives, including Sarpanches, play a crucial role in addressing villagers’ needs and advancing development initiatives.

Singh stressed that it is essential for both voters and potential candidates to have accurate and complete information about the election process and related rules. He urged for extensive voter awareness activities to ensure maximum public participation in the Panchayat Raj elections, particularly focusing on raising awareness among youth, women, and first-time voters.

The video conference commenced with a welcome address from Rajesh Verma, the Chief Electoral Officer of the State Election Commission, and included participation from college principals, ELC nodal officers, and campus ambassadors.
