Bihar Official Arrested for Accepting Bribe in Livestock Department

Patna, October 8 (Daily Kiran) : A clerk from the livestock department in Bihar was apprehended on October 8 for accepting a bribe of ₹20,000. The arrest took place in Patna, near the AIIMS roundabout, where Vijay Kumar was caught red-handed while receiving the money.

The operation was initiated following a complaint from Rajendra Prasad, a resident of Nisarpura in the Naubatpur area of Patna district. Prasad alleged that Kumar demanded a bribe in exchange for processing a General Provident Fund (GPF) payment amounting to ₹600,000.

After verifying the complaint, the Bihar Vigilance Investigation Bureau confirmed the bribery allegations against Kumar. Subsequently, a First Information Report (FIR) was filed, and a team was formed under the leadership of Deputy Superintendent of Police Asif Iqbal Mehdi, at the request of Inspector Jahangir Ansari.

The team executed a planned operation, leading to Kumar’s arrest while he was accepting the bribe. Officials from the Vigilance Bureau stated that they are currently interrogating the suspect. Following the questioning, Kumar will be presented in the special court in Patna. The investigation into the case is ongoing.

This incident marks the 118th FIR filed against corruption in 2026. The Bureau is currently investigating a total of 119 cases, including 108 related to bribery. So far, 108 individuals have been arrested in connection with these cases. In 2026 alone, ₹38,088,800 in bribes has been seized, along with a new washing machine valued at ₹37,000. In comparison, 101 bribery cases were registered in 2025, with ₹37,803,000 confiscated.
