New Delhi, October 8 (Daily Kiran) : A demonstration led by the Congress party against alleged irregularities in the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Review (SIR) campaign continued for a third day on Thursday. Opposition leaders and activists, under the guidance of Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, marched to Rajghat in New Delhi.
By Thursday evening, hundreds of opposition leaders and supporters had gathered at Rajghat, voicing their dissent against the central government and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. They also discussed strategies to escalate their movement.
Earlier, senior leaders from Congress and the INDIA bloc convened a meeting during lunch at Connaught Place. The discussions focused on the allegations surrounding the SIR and how to intensify their campaign against the purported “vote theft.”
The opposition is demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Congress and its allies allege that irregularities in the voter list during the SIR are infringing upon voters’ rights.
Speaking to the media at Rajghat, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi reiterated the call for Kumar’s resignation and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to listen to the voices of the people.
Following the lunch meeting, Kharge emphasized that the opposition aims to send a clear message: the freedom gained through the struggles of independence fighters is being “stolen” by the Election Commission, which is undermining the “right to vote.”
For the past two days, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and several other Congress leaders have been protesting in the national capital. The opposition accuses the Election Commission of collaborating with the BJP-led central government to undermine democracy and execute a criminal conspiracy to steal votes.
Additionally, a newly formed organization, the Cockroach People’s Party (CJP), composed of students and social activists, has announced a significant protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10. They plan to address the alleged “vote theft” and electoral irregularities.
