
Oslo, May 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with King Harald V of Norway at the Royal Palace in Oslo on May 18. The two leaders discussed the remarkable progress of Indian and Norwegian companies, particularly in new technologies.
During the meeting, PM Modi extended warm wishes from the people of India to King Harald. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) noted that Modi praised Norway’s natural beauty and emphasized that the long-standing friendship between India and Norway is rooted in shared values of democracy, rule of law, and people-centric governance.
Following the meeting, King Harald hosted a lunch in honor of PM Modi, who expressed gratitude for the King’s generous hospitality.
Earlier that morning, King Harald awarded PM Modi the Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit, Norway’s highest honor. In response, Modi expressed his pride in receiving this award, dedicating it to the people of India and as a tribute to the enduring friendship between India and Norway. He stated that it reflects their shared commitment to global progress.
PM Modi also thanked King Harald and the people of Norway for this honor. According to the PMO, this award symbolizes the deep goodwill between India and Norway and will guide their future friendship and cooperation.
While addressing the media alongside his Norwegian counterpart, Jonas Gahr Støre, PM Modi announced the elevation of India-Norway relations to a Green Strategic Partnership. He noted that this partnership will combine India’s scale, speed, and talent with Norway’s technology and capital, helping both countries’ companies develop global solutions.
