New Delhi, July 23: The Indian government has allocated a total of 10,389 kilometers for National High-Speed Corridors and Greenfield Expressway projects across the country. Of this, construction has been completed on 4,809 kilometers, while work is ongoing on projects spanning 5,580 kilometers. This information was presented by the government in Parliament.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari provided this information in a written response to the Rajya Sabha. He stated that the government has established a coordinated system at the project, state, and central levels for regular reviews of all ongoing National Highway projects. This system ensures participation from all stakeholders, including the respective state governments.
According to the data shared by the minister, Rajasthan has received the highest allocation of 1,340 kilometers for National High-Speed Corridor and Expressway projects. Out of this, 1,192 kilometers have been completed, while work is ongoing on 148 kilometers.
Other major states include Punjab, which has been allocated 923 kilometers of projects, with construction ongoing on 774 kilometers. In Andhra Pradesh, projects covering 893 kilometers have been allocated, with 308 kilometers completed and 585 kilometers under construction. Uttar Pradesh has received projects totaling 884 kilometers, of which 388 kilometers are complete, while work continues on 496 kilometers. Haryana has been allocated 839 kilometers, with 615 kilometers already completed.
Additionally, in Gujarat, 764 kilometers of the corridor network have been allocated, with 605 kilometers completed.
To expedite project implementation, the government has taken several measures. These include simplifying the land acquisition process through the ‘Land Amount’ portal and GIS-based land acquisition schemes, as well as enhancing the ‘Parivesh’ portal to expedite environmental and forest clearances.
The government has also initiated an online approval system for General Arrangement Drawings (GAD) for Road Over Bridges (ROB) and Road Under Bridges (RUB) in collaboration with the railways. Regular review meetings with state governments and other stakeholders are being conducted to address any obstacles faced by the projects.
According to the government, continuous monitoring and improved coordination among various agencies have accelerated the implementation of National Highways, High-Speed Corridors, and Greenfield Expressway projects across the country.
