Ranchi, July 23: A significant political confrontation unfolded in Ranchi on Thursday, as Congress workers attempted to besiege the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office in response to the NEET paper leak controversy. The situation escalated when Congress activists clashed with BJP supporters while trying to break through police barricades. Both sides engaged in heated shouting matches, throwing eggs, tomatoes, and bottles at each other. The police faced considerable challenges in controlling the situation.
Thousands of Congress supporters marched towards the BJP state office on Harmu Road, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and accountability regarding the NEET paper leak. However, the administration had set up multiple layers of barricading approximately 100 meters from the BJP office to prevent their advance. Protesters attempted to push past the barricades, leading to a physical struggle with the police.
During the chaos, police forces intervened to prevent the protesters from advancing. Meanwhile, a large number of BJP workers were already present outside the office, waving party flags and chanting slogans against Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party. As the two groups faced off, tensions escalated. BJP workers climbed onto a fire truck and began throwing tomatoes and eggs at Congress activists in retaliation.
In response, Congress workers also hurled eggs and other items back, creating a scene of pandemonium in the area. Given the seriousness of the situation, the police transformed Harmu Road and its surroundings into a fortified zone. A significant police presence, including rapid action teams and senior administrative officials, was deployed to manage the conflict and prevent further escalation.
The protests severely disrupted traffic on Harmu Road, leading to long queues of vehicles. Traffic police were forced to divert vehicles on several routes. Notably, just a day prior, BJP and Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) workers had besieged the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) office over alleged irregularities in the 14th JPSC preliminary examination, which had already heightened tensions between the two parties.
On Thursday, Congress organized the siege of the BJP office regarding the NEET paper leak, intensifying the political clash between the two parties.
