Indore, July 23: Chief Minister Mohan Yadav received a warm welcome in Indore following the passage of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) bill in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly. With this legislation, Madhya Pradesh has become the fourth state in India to adopt the UCC. The bill was introduced during the monsoon session of the state assembly and was passed by a voice vote.
Upon his arrival in Indore, Chief Minister Yadav was greeted by people from various religious backgrounds, along with the general public. In a discussion with reporters, he noted that today marks the birth anniversary of the immortal martyr Chandrashekhar Azad. He expressed pride in the vision of freedom fighters like Azad and Bhagat Singh, who dreamed of a nation that offers equal opportunities and views everyone equally. He emphasized that under a uniform law, everyone has the right to live with dignity.
Yadav highlighted that over 35 million people were contacted regarding the UCC, resulting in 1 million suggestions in support of the bill. He stated that with the implementation of the UCC, Madhya Pradesh will join the ranks of major states that protect citizens’ rights through uniform laws. The UCC encompasses various issues, including marriage, divorce, and inheritance, applying the same laws to Hindus, Muslims, Parsis, and Christians alike. He reiterated the government’s commitment to the principle of one nation, one law, one symbol, and one leader.
The Chief Minister also linked Indore’s development to the state’s progress, stating that Indore opens pathways for advancement in other regions. He cited the double-decker bridge as a prime example of modern engineering, showcasing Indore’s unique capabilities.
