New Delhi, February 23: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has addressed voters in West Bengal through a letter. He criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee while promoting the slogan “Ebar BJP Sarkar” (This time, BJP government). Modi expressed that every individual dreaming of a “Sonar Bengal” (Golden Bengal) is currently disheartened. He noted that mothers and sisters in West Bengal do not feel safe today.

In his letter, Modi stated, “Jai Maa Kali… In just a few months, West Bengal’s fate will be determined. The future direction for the coming generations depends on your thoughtful decisions. Every youth, elder, and woman dreaming of a Sonar Bengal is in pain today. Their suffering weighs heavily on my heart. Therefore, I have made a deep commitment to make West Bengal ‘developed’ and prosperous. Over the past 11 years, with the blessings of the people, my government has prioritized public welfare and overall development. From the welfare of farmers to fulfilling the dreams of youth, and empowering women to uplifting every section of society, the positive results of our policies and continuous efforts are evident today.”

Modi further mentioned, “Despite the state government’s non-cooperation and opposition, nearly 50 million people in West Bengal are connected to the banking system through the ‘Jan Dhan Yojana.’ Under the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan,’ 8.5 million toilets have been constructed in the state. While the ruling party is snatching away the livelihoods of the poor, we have extended a helping hand by providing loans worth ₹2.82 lakh crore to small traders and entrepreneurs. I have had the privilege of making 5.6 million senior citizens self-reliant in their old age through the ‘Atal Pension Yojana.’ Through the ‘Ujjwala Yojana,’ over 10 million families have been liberated from smoke by receiving cooking gas. The farmers who feed the nation are struggling to support their families in West Bengal. In such difficult circumstances, I feel fortunate to bring smiles to the faces of over 5.2 million farmers through direct financial assistance via the ‘Kisan Samman Nidhi.’”

Modi lamented, “After independence, West Bengal was a leader in shaping the country’s economy and industrial development. However, witnessing the dilapidated condition of this glorious state today saddens me. The irreparable damage caused by six decades of misgovernance and appeasement politics cannot be described. On one hand, youth are forced to migrate to other states due to a lack of employment, while on the other hand, my mothers and sisters do not feel safe in West Bengal today.”

He remarked, “The Bengal envisioned by Swami Vivekananda and Rishi Aurobindo is now trapped in narrow vote-bank politics, violence, and chaos, which is deeply painful for all of us. The land of West Bengal, once inspired by the ‘call for freedom’ from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, is now tainted by illegal infiltration and violence against women. The dream of Sonar Bengal is overshadowed by fake voters. The entire nation is concerned about West Bengal, which is sinking into the darkness of chaos.”

He concluded, “But how long will we silently endure all this? Change is now imperative. Many states in the country have seen improved living standards, smiles on the faces of the poor, health security through ‘Ayushman Bharat,’ job opportunities for youth, and ensured safety for women. West Bengal too deserves this development and progress.”
