
Milwaukee, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : Central Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal engaged in discussions with trade ministers from Canada, the UK, and Australia to bolster India’s economic relationships. The meetings took place during the G20 trade ministers’ summit in Milwaukee on October 2, 2026.
Goyal highlighted a significant meeting with Canada’s International Trade Minister, Mary Ng, where they reviewed ongoing negotiations for the India-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). Initiated by the Prime Ministers of both nations in March, the agreement aims to increase bilateral trade to $50 billion by 2030.
Building on their recent discussions in Mumbai, Goyal reiterated their commitment to expedite negotiations and finalize the agreement as soon as possible.
In addition to his meeting with Ng, Goyal also conferred with the UK’s Secretary of State for Business, Innovation, Science, and Trade, Jonathan Reynolds. They reviewed the implementation of the India-UK Comprehensive Economic Trade Agreement (CETA), which took effect on July 15, 2026. Goyal emphasized the importance of maximizing the agreement’s potential and strategies to double bilateral trade.
The focus of these conversations was on the implementation of trade agreements and enhancing trade flows between the countries.
Goyal also met with Australia’s Trade and Tourism Minister, Senator Don Farrell. They discussed accelerating negotiations under the India-Australia Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement. Topics included pharmaceuticals, services, investment, agri-tech, and critical minerals.
Goyal noted that they reviewed progress under the India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA) and emphasized ensuring that Indian companies can fully benefit from duty-free access to the Australian market.
