Jaipur Mayor Sunil Kothari Takes to the Streets for Cleanliness Inspection

Jaipur, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : Jaipur’s Mayor, Sunil Kothari, has ramped up inspections of civic services, particularly focusing on cleanliness in the city. On Thursday night, he assessed waste management in the Walled City area, personally engaging in cleaning efforts to ensure public spaces are well maintained.

The inspection began near the Hanuman Temple at Sanganeeri Gate, accompanied by Jaipur MP Manju Sharma, councilor Anuradha Maheshwari, Deputy Commissioner Balram Meena, and other municipal officials. Following the day’s business activities, Kothari scrutinized the cleanliness arrangements in the main markets of the Walled City.

He evaluated the accumulation of garbage, the deployment of sanitation workers, the availability of cleaning equipment, and the waste collection process. When he encountered litter on the streets, Kothari picked up a broom himself, highlighting the critical importance of effective cleanliness in busy commercial areas. He stated that special measures for cleanliness are being implemented in Jaipur ahead of October 2, and he is personally overseeing nighttime cleaning operations.

“I am monitoring the cleanliness efforts at night. It is essential to understand the challenges faced by sanitation workers on the ground to improve the system. Officials are reviewing the deployment of staff, resource availability, and the waste collection process after market hours. Necessary changes will be made based on the findings of this review,” Kothari explained.

The Walled City is one of Jaipur’s major commercial and tourism hubs, where significant waste accumulates after shops close for the day. Timely waste collection, maintaining cleanliness outside stores, and deploying sanitation workers pose considerable challenges for the municipal administration.

The purpose of Thursday’s late-night inspection was to verify whether the cleanliness measures implemented by the municipal corporation are functioning effectively at the grassroots level. Kothari emphasized the need to ensure that Jaipur remains clean and attractive in preparation for the upcoming Diwali festival.

During the inspection, Kothari also discussed the heritage identity of Jaipur and its UNESCO World Heritage status. He noted that discussions with officials regarding heritage-related issues are ongoing, and effective measures will be taken to address them. “We will not let Jaipur’s UNESCO heritage status be compromised,” he asserted.

This late-night inspection comes at a time when the municipal corporation faces the dual challenge of improving cleanliness in the densely populated Walled City while preserving Jaipur’s historical identity. The impact of Kothari’s on-ground inspections will ultimately depend on how effectively the identified issues are addressed in the sanitation system.
