New Delhi, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : The recent announcement of protests in New Delhi has led to significant disruptions in metro services. On October 2, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) confirmed that, for security reasons, entry and exit at 11 metro stations have been temporarily closed.
According to the DMRC’s service update, these restrictions will remain in place until further notice. The affected stations include Janpath, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, Rajiv Chowk, Seva Tirth, Mandi House, Lok Kalyan Marg, INA, Chawri Bazar, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, and New Delhi Station. These stations are located in some of the most crucial and busy areas of Central Delhi, which could lead to considerable inconvenience for commuters.
However, DMRC has provided some relief by allowing interchange facilities at four major stations: Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, New Delhi, and Central Secretariat. Passengers will be able to switch lines at these stations but will not be permitted to exit or enter.
The protests are reportedly in response to the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner, with several organizations planning demonstrations at Jantar Mantar. In light of this, the Delhi Police have implemented Section 144 in New Delhi and have heightened security measures. The decision to close metro stations is seen as part of these efforts to manage crowds and maintain law and order.
DMRC has urged passengers to check their official website and social media channels for updates before traveling to avoid any inconvenience.
