New Delhi, April 9: Parth Pawar officially became a member of the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan administered the oath at the Parliament House. Parth Pawar, representing the NCP, was elected from Maharashtra.
Parth hails from a prominent political family. He is the son of the late Ajit Pawar and the grandson of Sharad Pawar. Ajit Pawar previously served as Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister. His passing in a plane crash earlier this year led to significant shifts in the state’s political landscape. Shortly after his death, his wife, Sunetra Pawar, took on an active role in state politics.
Sunetra Pawar was sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister just days after her husband’s demise, assuming various party responsibilities. Previously, she was a member of the Rajya Sabha but resigned to fulfill her new role in the state government.
The seat vacated by Sunetra Pawar was filled by Parth Pawar, marking the beginning of his political career in Delhi. During the oath-taking ceremony, Parth pledged allegiance to the Constitution, officially joining the upper house of the country. He will now participate in national law-making and address significant issues.
The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Vice President, Leader of the House, and Union Minister J.P. Nadda, along with senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh and others. Notably, just days before, on April 6, Parth’s grandfather and Ajit Pawar’s uncle, Sharad Pawar, also took the oath as a Rajya Sabha member. Other leaders from Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Odisha were sworn in as Rajya Sabha members as well.
On that Monday, a total of 19 members took their oaths in the Rajya Sabha, including prominent leaders like Sharad Pawar, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale from Maharashtra’s Republican Party of India, senior AIADMK leader Thambidurai, and DMK’s Tiruchi Shiva, all returning as members of the Rajya Sabha.
