Jalandhar, September 30 (Daily Kiran) : Political tensions are rising in Punjab as Union Home Minister Amit Shah prepares for his visit to the state. Congress MP Randeep Singh Surjewala has posed seven critical questions to Shah, demanding answers on pressing issues concerning Punjab.
In a post on social media platform X, Surjewala expressed frustration, stating, “Amit Shah, you do not respond to my letters regarding Punjab issues from your office in Delhi. Now that you are visiting Punjab, I hope you will address these important questions for the state’s benefit.”
One of Surjewala’s key concerns is the ongoing incidents of drug and weapon smuggling via drones from across the border. He questioned why the supply chain remains intact despite the Border Security Force (BSF) being responsible for securing the international boundary. He also inquired about the effectiveness of the anti-drone technology currently being implemented and when the entire border belt would receive adequate coverage.
Surjewala further raised issues regarding the central government’s strategy against gangster networks that orchestrate extortion, murders, and organized crime from within prisons and abroad. Citing statistics, he pointed out that over 100 kilograms of heroin were seized in Punjab’s border districts alone in September. He questioned how such substances continue to infiltrate the state if the central government is monitoring the borders.
He also demanded clarity on the measures taken to reach the networks and handlers behind grenade attacks on police stations and checkpoints. Additionally, Surjewala asked about the progress in repatriating gangsters and handlers operating from foreign countries back to India.
In his concluding remarks, Surjewala challenged Shah’s intentions, stating, “If you truly care for Punjab, take decisive action and deliver results. If you are merely visiting for political purposes, I pray for your pleasant journey.”
