Pakistans Captain Fatima Sana Calls for Improvement After Defeat to India in Womens T20 World Cup

Birmingham, June 15: Pakistan faced a significant setback in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, suffering a 64-run defeat against India on Sunday. Following this disappointing loss, captain Fatima Sana acknowledged the need for her team to perform better in upcoming matches.

After the match at Edgbaston, Fatima Sana expressed her frustration, particularly regarding the batting performance. “I think it was extremely disappointing, especially in terms of batting. We need to improve in the next matches because our journey in the World Cup is still long,” she stated.

At one point during the match, India scored 123/5 in 16.3 overs, ultimately finishing with 170 runs for the loss of 6 wickets after 20 overs.

Analyzing the reasons for the defeat, the Pakistani captain noted, “I believe we were in a good position until the 15th over. After that, we gave away some extra runs. At one moment, there was a mistake in our fielder’s positioning, which cost us dearly. We will try to improve on these aspects in the upcoming matches.”

Regarding the team’s fielding performance, Fatima Sana remarked, “Clearly, catches win matches. Unfortunately, we dropped some catches, especially from senior players. I believe we need to enhance both our bowling and fielding in the next match, as small mistakes on the field can change the outcome of the entire game. We were trying to implement our plans and stick to the strategy set before the match.”

India managed to score 170 runs in their allotted 20 overs, while Pakistan had a promising start, scoring 52 runs for the loss of 1 wicket in the first 6 overs. However, they collapsed, managing only 106 runs in the next 17 overs.

Commenting on the batting during the powerplay, the Pakistani captain said, “We were trying to play with a positive attitude. We claimed the powerplay in both batting and bowling, but after that, our batting fell apart. To achieve better results moving forward, we need to improve our batting.”
